The Legend of Tarzan' Spoilers, News & Updates: Tarzan Lives Like a Gentleman in a City

"The Legend of Tarzan" could be the surprise hit this summer as positive reviews pour on its first trailer. Unlike the previous adaptations of the story, the movie will start when Tarzan becomes a dignified gentleman, years after he left the jungle.

"The Legend of Tarzan" reboot has been in the works since 2003, finding inspiration in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, according to Movie News Guide. There were many attempts on a "Tarzan" remake; however, Warner Bros decided to adapt Craig Brewer and Adam Cozad's separate drafts, which have been combined for the movie, per Cinema Blend .

Rather than following Tarzan's timeline, writers and director David Yates decided to start "Legend of Tarzan" from John Clayton's III point of view. As Lord Greystoke, Tarzan lives a prosperous life in England with his wife, Jane Porter (Margot Robbie). However, when he was invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary for the British Parliament, Lord Greystoke slowly goes back to becoming Tarzan. He becomes entwined in the revenge plot of Captain Leon Rom.

Alexander Skarsgard takes on the lead role, Tarzan, beating out big shot stars like Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill and Charlie Hunnam as they were also interested in taking the role. There were also rumors of Michael Phelps auditioning for the role.

In a recent interview with USA Today, Alexander Skarsgard explained his own take on "The Legend of Tarzan." He was quoted saying, "This is about a man who's holding back and slowly as you peel off layers, he reverts back to a more animalistic state and lets that side of his personality out."

Skarsgard reportedly spent four months of all-consuming training to get into the Tarzan-built. The "Harry Potter" director said Skarsgard is perfect for the role, noting the actor's distinct shape and physique. He also worked with renowned choreographer Wayne McGregor to help the actor with the proper posture and movements as an upper-class gentleman with a wild side.

"Legend of Tarzan" will premiere on July 1, 2016. Check out the official trailer below.
