In-N-Out Burger Is Making A Healthy Change By Ditching Anti-Biotics On Their Beef

One of the biggest fast food restaurants decided to make a healthy change. In-N-Out burger recently announced that they would be shifting to antibiotic free meat choices.

In-N-Out is one of the healthiest fast food choices, though it does not necessarily mean that what they serve is as healthy as a home cooked meal, what they serve is the lesser evil amount than other fast food joints. What gave In-N-Out the edge among its competitors is that they serve fresh ingredients.

The family owned fast food joint made an additional commitment, according to San Francisco Gate. Aside from serving fresh ingredients, they also planned to change their beef products with the ones that are not exposed to antibiotic.

"Our company is committed to beef that is not raised with antibiotics important to human medicine," vice president of quality for In-N-Out Burger Keith Brazeau told  Reuters via email. "We've asked our suppliers to accelerate their progress towards establishing antibiotic alternatives."

Eating food that contains antibiotics can potentially strengthen the individual's antibiotic resistance. It is a condition wherein one's body would no longer respond to antibiotic treatments and can later cause more complicated problems, Common Dreams reported.

"It's time for the company to set a strong antibiotics policy that will help push the meat industry to do the right thing for public health," said Jason Pfeifle, who is a public health advocate. SG Gate website then pointed out that eliminating antibiotics from beef can potentially increase the chances of contacting bacteria, it stated that it rarely happens.

The antibiotic is being used to cleanse the beef from any unwanted infectious strain and super bugs that can affect the cattle's health. Without the presence of antibiotics, rare cases, it can still be dangerous, most especially in under cooked food.
