5 Reasons Why Your Cat Howls At 1 AM

If you are a cat owner and you notice your pet howling at exactly 1am, don't freak out and think that your cat is possessed by some evil spirits. This is actually quite something normal, especially for male unneutered cats. We know how annoying it is when this happens; as it could hinder you from getting that good night sleep.

There are many reasons why your cat could be making that howling sound in the middle of the night. Before you panic and get worried that it is something serious related to their health, here are the 5 most common reasons why they act like that just when you are about to hit cloud nine in your dream zone.

1. Boredom: This is most of the time the reason why they sound so scary in the middle of the night and yes; it is because they are bored. You can leave them with some toys before you go to bed, so they have something to play with and entertain themselves.

2. Attention: Cats are attention-seeking creatures! If they are howling at night, it is most likely that they want your attention. You could cuddle them or pet them if you can't really take the sound that they are making.

3. Illness: In an article published by Catster, excessive howling at night could indicate that your cat is probably sick. It usually happens to older cats and mostly related to feline urinary track infection and blockage in their kidney. If your cat is having trouble peeing and it howls before it pees, that is the time that you send it to the vet immediately.

4. Heat: According to PetPlace, the weather and your place's temperature could also be the cause of your having "midnight crazies." Cats better off in cooler places because of their insulating fur coats.

5. Spoiled: If you are someone who tends to the cry of your cat immediately, then it is possible that you have spoiled your pet and wants your attention all the time. The reason behind your cat's howling could be of habitual attention seeking.

If you would notice, most of the reasons why your cat howls at night are behavior related issues. So don't panic unless it is number three.
