'The Princess Diaries 3' Is Reportedly In The Works; Here's What We Know So Far

In 2015, rumors began circulating that there are plans to create “Princess Diaries 3.” Initially, it was confirmed that the project would not materialize. However, new reports revealed that “Princess Diaries 3” will most likely happen.

“I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan. Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we're going to do it,” said director Garry Marshall to People.

There is also the potential of Chris Pine reprising his role as Nicolas Devereaux, the husband of Mia Thermopolis, played by Anna Hathaway. Marshall added that Chris Pine likes him, because his father is in “Mother’s Day,” an upcoming holiday-based film that he directed. The director continued that he knows Pine’s father and he watched his plays. Marshall and Pine’s children also went to the same schools. He described Pine’s father as a good, strange and funny Texan.

He also said that Pine’s dad is married to Margo Martingale. These might be enough to convince Pine to return in “Princess Diaries 3.”

Chris Pine has not yet confirmed whether he will be coming back for the role in “Princess Diaries 3”. Entertainment Weekly said that Pine was previously asked by a fan whether he is hoping for to play Nicolas in “Princess Diaries 3”.

“Have you been reading my diary???” the actor responded, which hinted that he may be interested in reprising the character in “Princess Diaries 3.”

Refinery29 noted that “Princess Diaries 2” last aired in 2004, so there is a likelihood that Hathaway will still reprise her role as Mia, who has adapted much to her royal heritage in “Princess Diaries 3”.

“Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement” also featured several returning actors like Hathaway, Julie Andrews and Hector Elizondo, among others. Marshall also came back to direct. The film franchise is a romantic comedy that focuses on Mia Thermopolis, who is being shaped to be a fitting queen of Genovia, when her grandmother (Andrews) retires.
