Glass Onion Catering Recalls Prepackaged Goods after E.Coli Scare

A California-based company recently recalled a range of pre-packaged goods after a possible E. coli scare, according to America Aljazeera.

Glass Onion Catering was identified by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as one of the companies that may have contributed to the 26 cases of E. coli brought about by prepackaged lunches intended for sale in eight Western states - Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Washington.

As of late, 181,000 pounds of salad and sandwich products sold at popular outlets are being recalled. Products include Trader Joe's Field Fresh Chopped Salad, produced between September 23 and November 6. Other products included in the recall are the Delish Greek Style Orzo Salad, Delish Asian Style Noodle Salad and Delish Vegetarian Wrap from Walgreens and Trader Joe's Classic Greek Salad.

E. coli bacteria may result to dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps two to eight days after contamination. Some patients may recover from the bacteria while others may experience kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), according to ABQ Journal. The said disease is most common among children aged five years old and younger as well as among older adults. However, the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) have reported that the disease may also be acquired by people of any age

Representatives from USDA's FSIS have yet to determine the actual source of the contamination but the E. coli strain is believed to be found in some of the aforementioned products. The FSIS claims that it is "most concerned that some products may still be in consumer's refrigerators" and advises everyone to watch out for possible symptoms.
