Beauty Secret Tips: 5 Beauty Uses of Coffee That You Probably Didn't Know

Everybody loves coffee that can lighten up your mood and makes you alive every morning. What most people don't know is that coffee can be healthier for your skin and hair too.

"The coffee bean is rich in stimulating caffeine and polyphenols, which are potent antioxidants," Heidi Waldorf, MD, a dermatologist in New York City said. "When using topically, it can brighten skin, ease puffiness and soothe inflammation."

Coffee does more than give you that boost of energy you need in the morning. Health and Huffington Post share the following beauty uses of coffee:

1.   Revitalize your face

Julian Hunter, MD, a dermatologist at Wholistic Dermatology in Beverly Hills, CA said that coffee can be put on the surface of your skin. It can brighten your skin, soften lines and prevent clogged pores. Coffee contains acid that provides chemical exfoliation on top of the mechanical exfoliation, according to Hunter. It also serves as skin's protective barrier temporarily.

2.  Body Scrub

Scrub your body using coffee. This can temporarily reduce fat cells. You mix 1 cup of coffee and ½ cup of sugar with hydrating coconut. Mix them well. Apply the mixture on your wet skin with strong pressure and in the circular motion. Rinse off and let your body dry.

3.  Under Eye Balm

Soak two pieces of cotton in a cold coffee and placed them over your eyes. Let them stay for 10 minutes until the coffee is absorbed into your skin. This helps deplete the fluid under your eyes that causes swelling, Dr.Wardolf said.

4.   Hair Volumizer

According to a recent study, treating hair with the coffee can keep the hair roots active and promotes growth. Mix a handful of coffee with a conditioner. Massage it on your scalp for five minutes once a week.

5.  Sun Soother

Coffee contains anti-inflammatory properties. These can ease sunburn and fight the UV-induced free radicals. Dissolve a cup of brewed coffee in cold water and soak a cloth in the cup of coffee. Apply on sunburned areas. This will soothe your skin.
