Waist-Training: 5 Celebrities Setting A Bad Example For Slimming - What Experts Say

Waist training, a slimming technique that has women wearing tight contraptions like corsets around the waist in the hopes of trimming down their waistlines and acquiring a whistle-bait figure, has grown popular in recent years and it's all because of celebrities. They post images of themselves wearing waist-trainers, but they are only setting a bad example to women everywhere.

Here are the five celebrities known for doing waist-training and why experts say it should not be done:

1) Kim Kardashian

She became the unofficial promoter of waist training on the internet after showing a selfie in her waist-trainer. "I've always thought her body was amazing, and when I saw that photo I was like, 'Oh, that's how she does it!" said one young girl via Teen Vogue. The technique soon became a fad on Instagram.

2) Kardashian sisters - Khloe, Kourtney and Kylie

Kim's sisters, Khloe, Kourtney and Kylie joined the waist-training bandwagon and shared their selfies wearing the contraption when they became actual endorsers of waist-training products.

3) Kim Zolciak and daughter Brielle "Real Housewife of Atlanta" stars Kim Zolciak and her daughter Brielle are also fans of the waist-trainer, and treat this as a bonding moment for the family.

4) Kailyn Lowry

"Teen Mom" star Kailyn Lowry is also on the trend after getting liposuction. She ignored her surgeon's advice that wearing waist-trainer would be dangerous after a tummy tuck, per Hollywood Gossip.

5) Ciara

Music artist Ciara has a svelte figure, but she's still into waist-training, per Entertainment Tonight. She wore the corset post pregnancy.

However, this fad is dangerous because the compression of the body can lead to many problems in the lungs, kidneys and liver, Dr. Dyan Hes told Teen Vogue. There are also no proven benefits to waist-training even as wearers say they have lost weight with it. Doctors say that the reason this happens is because it's hard to eat when your stomach is compressed, yet it's not a long-term and healthy solution to weight loss.
