'Heartland' Season 9 Finale Spoilers, News & Update: CBS Renews Show for Another Season; Season's Finale Airs this Sunday

Do you watch CBS' "Heartland?" If you love this television series, you have one more reason to rejoice, the network just renewed your favorite show.

Calgary Herald reported that "Heartland" is renewed for a 10th season. "To continue to engage our audience at this stage of the franchise is kind of awe-inspiring," said producer Jordy Randall of Calgary's SEVEN24 Films.

"We're on track for Season 9 to be the highest-rated season of the franchise. If you think about the live TV audience shrinking over the years, whether it be because of Netflix or more channels, we've bucked the trend and continued growing. It speaks to the show's connection to the audience."

The popular CBS series, "Heartland" is filmed in Calgary, High River and other areas of southern Alberta. "Heartland" Season 10 production will start on May 9 and will wrap in December. The report notes that "Heartland" Season 10 will come with 18 episodes.

It's not a surprise for CBS to renew "Heartland" because the show is the longest-running Canadian drama and it continues to attract more viewers. In fact, "Heartland" Season 9 is averaging over a million viewers per episode and that rate may rise as we near "Heartland" Season 9's finale.

According to CBS's official "Heartland" blog, among the factors that contribute to the longevity of "Heartland" is the huge volume of Canadian viewers.

"Heartland" Season 6 has more viewers than Season 5; "Heartland" Season 7 has more viewers than Season 6; and Season 8 has more viewers than Season 7. This trend continues in "Heartland" season 9.

As for the "Heartland" Season 9 finale, fans can expect to see Amy (Amber Marshall) and Ty (Graham Wardle) celebrating New Year's Eve together, as well as their anniversary. However, when the pair is together things do get complicated. The finale will also address Lou's (Michelle Morgan) to do's, Georgie and Adam's issues, and Bob's problems with the wildlife reserve.

Overall, these "Heartland" storylines are difficult to wrap up in the finale, so it's a good thing that the show will be returning for another season. "Heartland" Season 9 finale airs on Sunday, Mar. 20 at 7 p.m. in CBS.
