Study Reveals Truth Behind Processed Food: 4 Foods Throw Out Now!

An alarming study was published in the BMJ Open as it revealed the main culprit that contributes 60 percent of the calories found in America's daily diet. It found out that 'ultra-processed foods are to be blamed for such a high number.

In an interview with Health Day News, lead study author Euridice Martinez Steele pointed out that we should start watching our food intake and clean out our daily diet. "There is one relatively simple way to avoid excessive added sugar-not replacing real food ... with ultra-processed food and drink products," she said.

Here are the four worst ultra-processed foods that don't deserve a space in your pantry:

1. Chips
Since this is always made with a ton of artificial flavors, colors and preservatives - especially with ingredients you can't even pronounce. Chips are most addicting and high in sodium that can eventually damage your kidney if eaten excessively.

2. Packaged Snack Cakes
Those cakes tightly wrapped in a plastic wrapper that can last for months are obviously packed with preservatives and all kinds of sugar. Cynthia Sass, a registered dietician and Health's contributing nutrition editor suggests making your own sweet treat instead by using nutrient-rich alternative to white flour, such as almond flour or chickpea. Ditch in whipped cream or sweet syrups and use fresh fruits in season.

3. Diet Soda
Diet soda has zero nutritional value, contains artificial sweeteners like aspartame, saccharin, and sucralose, and has been linked to depression, headaches, and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes. The best option is to increase your water intake instead.

4. Candy
Bad news sweet tooth, candy bars are known to be high in fructose, corn syrup and artificial flavors that can promote high blood pressure and cholesterol. But the good news is, you can always opt for a healthier alternative such as dark chocolates that are a good source of magnesium and antioxidants.
