'Clash of Clans' vs 'Stronghold Kingdoms': New Game More Interactive Than Supercell's Popular Game; May Kill 'CoC'?

Most online gamers are hooked on Supercell's popular game, "Clash of Clans." However, following the controversial "Clash of Clans" Town Hall 11 update, the game suffered a severe backlash from gamers and fans. Now, several games are threatening "Clash of Clan's" popularity and one of them is Firefly Studios' "Stronghold Kingdoms."

According to iDigitalTimes, "Stronghold Kingdoms" is similar to "Clash of Clans." It also features a tower defense style. "Stronghold Kingdoms" comes with impressive franchise pedigree, resource management and tower defense. They pioneered this style and genre but it is only recently that they reap the benefit of their effort.

In their Steam page, they described "Stronghold Kingdoms" as a unique PC strategy game that "brings together online interactivity and community, with a richly-depicted medieval world and thousands of real world players."

"Stronghold Kingdoms" takes the time-tested gameplay and aesthetic of "Clash of Clans" but puts it in a free-to-play MOM setting, which will surely satisfy any hardcore strategy players, who find "Clash of Clans'" current offering too shallow or watered down.

"The big difference between this and [games] like Clash of Clans would be that when you go to the over world in Clash of Clans, or any games of that ilk, it's one single static image with a few dots on it," said Nick Tannahill, Firefly Studios Marketing Manager. "It's not an interactive world, which is what we've got here."

Tannahill explained that "Stronghold Kingdoms" also feature micro transactions with a simple system based that provides temporary bonuses. However, players need not pour much money in the game to progress, but they should pour more time.

"We've got leaderboards for every single game world and a lot of the people there have spent absolutely nothing on the game, but they have invested X hundred hours," Tannahill said.

To play "Stronghold Kingdoms" one has to build an online stronghold, plot the perfect village, research new technology and fight for faction. All of these are available for free per Firefly studios.

"Stronghold Kingdoms" will be released for Android and iOS this summer. But the game is already available on Steam for PC, Mac, and Linux.

What do you think, will "Stronghold Kingdoms" put an end to "Clash of Clans" reign in online games? Share your thoughts below.
