'Half Life 3' Release Date: Game Might Never Happen, But A JJ Abrams Movie A Possibility

In February 2016, there were rumors that “Half Life 3” was already in the works after a leak was spotted on Steam’s list of upcoming games. Although fans were optimistic that Valve would officially announce the game at the 2016 GDC, no such thing happened.

NSeaVoice notes that it has been over a decade and there is still no confirmation whether “Half Life 3” would actually launch. It is not actually the first time that “Half Life 3” was seen on Steam. Valve already took down the leak, just like before. The company may only be trying to maintain the interest of fans and checking if there is still demand for the game. Only Valve has knowledge whether there is truly a third installment being developed and when it will actually br released.

One user claimed on Pastebin, a document-sharing site, that “Half-Life 2 Episode 3” was canceled and that the project was converted into a full-fledged title -- “Half Life 3,” writes the Mirror. However, there has been no confirmation from Valve.

According to News Independent, there is still a huge clamor for “Half Life 3.” Valve, however, needs to make an announcement soon, since fans have already been disappointed several times. It has been a very long wait and the demand will eventually disappear if they fail to accommodate requests.

Gabe Newell, CEO of Valve, mentioned that the game is a classic. Creating the next version of the game would mean making adjustments to a classic game that involves a lot of time and meticulous hands. If they were going to make “Half Life 3,” they have to be careful about the approach so as not to tarnish the good reputation that the original game has built.

When series creator Marc Laidlaw left the company, fans were worried that there may be delay in releasing the next installment, or that there would be no more “Half Life” games in the future at all.

NSeaVoice also reveals that J.J. Abrams made some recent comments that spurred people to believe that the director is planning to make a “Half Life” movie. “Half Life 3” might arrive as a movie instead of a game. Abrams stated that they are currently looking for potential writers.
