'Mr. Robot' Season 2 Spoilers, Cast, News & Update: New Agent To Hunt FSociety? Show Consults With FBI For Encryption Plot

"Mr. Robot" Season 2 is going to have plenty of new characters and the story will tackle the subject of data encryption. The timely plot is a reflection of what is happening in real life, which the show's creator, Sam Esmail, believes will make the series much more relevant to watch.

Deadline reports that Aasif Mandvi is the recent addition to "Mr. Robot" Season 2 and he's tasked to play Jesse, a recurring role who billed as a special agent. The character is described as a "dog," which likely suggests he's going to be hunting Elliot (Rami Malek) and the hacker group FSociety.

Earlier, "Mr. Robot" Season 2 have signed up Craig Robinson, Chris Conroy and Joey Bada$$ as its new characters. Robinson will play Elliot's neighbor, while Conroy will play Joanna's lover. On the other hand, Bada$$, whose real name is Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, is going to be introduced as a close friend of Elliot. He'll constantly be his adviser about the facts of life, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Meanwhile, in tackling the sensitive subject of data encryption, "Mr. Robot" Season 2 sought the help of the FBI as its consultant. Some of the storylines for the upcoming season were inspired by cases in the FBI Cyber Crime unit. However, Esmail made it clear that it the main plot has nothing to do with the issue between the NSA and Apple that's currently in the news and has been a cause of concern and debate by the public.

Esmail said that he had the idea in mind before Apple CEO Tim Cook refused the government's request to unlock iPhone encryptions.  "Our FBI consultants have a very strong point of view that encryption should allow for a third-party side door thing, which I am totally opposed to," Esmail said, per Vulture. "If our show at least contributes to that conversation, I think it'll help in terms of getting people to join this debate, because it's an important one."

"Mr. Robot" Season 2 is in the midst of filming, but the show has yet to receive a premiere date from USA Network. Its first season was critically-acclaimed. The show won as Best Drama Series in the 2016 Golden Globes.
