'Star Wars Episode 8' Spoilers, News & Update: Film To Include A Funeral For Han Solo; Rey's Mom Will Be Introduced?

The story of the galaxy far, far away has finally returned in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Following the success of the recent "Star Wars" film, the production is now gearing up for the next film in line "Star Wars Episode 8."

According to Metro, "Star Wars Episode 8" will include a funeral scene. Han Solo (Harrison Ford) died in "Star wars: The Force Awakens" and it is likely that the next film will honor him with a decent funeral.

In one of Ford's appearances in "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" he teases about his character in the "Star Wars" franchise, revealing that he wants Solo dead a long time ago since he and George Lucas worked on "Return Of the Jedi".

"I think it's quite clear that I've got nothing better to do," he said. "I argued for 30 years for this to happen and I finally wore them down."

Most, if not all were surprised to see Solo facing his demise in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and with Ford's revelations, it seems that Solo will only be featured in "Star Wars Episode 8" for his funeral.

However, when Kimmel suggested there will be no more Han Solo in "Star Wars Episode 8" and succeeding "Star Wars" films, Ford disputed. "Who said that? Who made you the boss?" This is not a confirmation that Solo will return nor a denial that the character is dead.

Meanwhile, there are rumors that "Star Wars Episode 8" will introduce new characters. HNGN reported that Laura Dern will join the cast of "Star Wars Episode 8." Per the report, Dern will be playing as a captain or officer as she tells the fighters that they are in the last phase of the rebellion or resistance. It's unclear though if Dern is an enemy or an ill-informed ally.

Meanwhile, there are rumors suggesting that Dern is cast as Rey's mother and/or Luke Skywalker's wife. What do you think of these reports? Share your thoughts below.

"Star Wars Episode 8" premieres on Dec. 15, 2017.
