Take A Peek: This Is What People With Dyslexia See When They Read

Dyslexia is a condition that affects reading, writing, spelling and speaking skills that can last your whole life. This may be a common condition, but it is certainly not understood by many. Victor Widell created a web code to make others understand how it is for people with dyslexia to read.

According to Yale centers, one in five people are affected by dyslexia. In fact, celebrities like Tom Cruise, Orlando Bloom and Keanu Reeves have already described how it has affected their lives. Widell came up with the idea to create a code after a friend told him the letters seemed to be jumbled up when she looked at the words.

Widell's simulation is not perfect because there are many forms of dyslexia and not everyone who is diagnosed experience the same kind of difficulty. However, seeing movements in words and seeing letters like "d," "b," "p" and "q" rotated is a common challenge among people with this disability, CNN reported. Some commenters on Widell's blog said his "text mirrored their experience; while others said theirs was slightly different or even more difficult."

Another person who can relate to people with dyslexia is Daniel Britton. Britton failed most of his exams in school and did not know he had the condition until he was 18.

Daniel learned that his reading ability is the same as that of a 10-year-old, while his writing skills were similar to an 11-year-old. Now, at age 26, he has created a dyslexic alphabet' in the hopes that adults, teachers and fellow students will be able to better empathize and support those people suffering dyslexia.

"I wouldn't have got where I am if it wasn't for my graphics tutor in my last year of school who spent a lot of her own time with me to make sure I had the right assessment," Britton said via Clitheroeadvertiser.co.uk. "When you have dyslexia you need someone to know you have it."
