Boxing News & Update: David Haye To Announce His Next O2 Opponent

Fans of David Haye are waiting to learn who will be his next opponent. The popular fighter will announce the name of his challenger on Wednesday, Mar 30, at a press conference.

Following January's quick-fire win over Mark de Mori at the London O2 Arena, David Haye will return on May 21 at the same venue for the second fight of his comeback. According to Sky Sports, David Haye, former WBA heavyweight champion, stopped De Mori in the opening round. That was the first fight of Haye since he defeated domestic rival Dereck Chisora in five rounds in Upton Park last July 2012.

Up to date, David Haye boasts a record of 27 wins and two draws. Due to an injury in 2013, Haye pulled out of fights with Tyson Fury twice. As he bids to put himself back in the world title mix, the former WBA heavyweight champion is now expected to choose a big name opponent.

There are speculations that David Haye would choose Olympic champion Anthony Joshua. David Haye has already expressed his interest in facing Joshua, who in turn challenged IBF champion Charles Martin in a fight on April 9. The 35-year-old David Haye could secure a showdown with the winner of the Joshua-Martin fight in case he could win at the O2 Arena.

On the other hand, former WBO champion Shannon Briggs is one fighter eager to face David Haye in the ring at the O2 Arena. The American fighter veteran traveled recently to the UK in an attempt to convince David Haye to face him in a fight. According to Boxing News 24, David Haye said that Briggs is on the list of the four potential opponents he's considering for the next fight at London's O2 Arena.

Since turning professional in 1992, Shannon Briggs has built a record of 59-6-1-KO52. A record 36 of his opponents were knocked out by Briggs in the first round.

After being handed a brutal points' defeat in 2010 by Vitali Klitschko, Shannon Briggs spent four years away from boxing. Since returning to the ring last year, the 44-year-old has performed eight straight wins, seven of them by knockout.
