Martin O'Donnell News & Update: 'Halo,' 'Destiny' Composer To Kickstart ‘Golem' For Highwire Games

"Halo" and "Destiny" composer, Martin "Marty" O'Donnell, is initiating his new musical project "Golem." The "Halo" and "Destiny" composer named the "Golem" album after the first in-development title of Highwire Games. "Golem" is intended by the "Halo" and "Destiny" composer to be a standalone prelude for the PlayStation 4 VR exclusive title.

Martin O'Donnell is, in fact, a co-founder of the Highwire Games game development company. Martin O'Donnell went into Highwire Games shortly after his very public fallout with Bungie, the developer of "Halo" and "Destiny" games. After co-composing the suite of themes to the "Destiny" franchise with Sir Paul McCartney, who also performed the game's theme "Hope for the Future", Martin O'Donnell was unduly fired by Bungie.

The "Halo" and "Destiny" composer, however, sought legal action against Bungie. Polygon reports that Martin O'Donnell took the "Halo" and "Destiny" developer to court over sudden termination compounded by unpaid fees and commissions. Martin O'Donnell subsequently won his case against Bungie. Martin O'Donnell worked with the "Halo" and "Destiny" developer for approximately 20 years. The business-versus-creative situation between Martin O'Donnell and Bungie brings to mind, to a certain degree, the debacle between Hideo Kojima and Konami.

Speculations say that the fallout with Bungie was what may have directly inspired the "Halo" and "Destiny" composer to pursue the "Golem" project independently. Game Reactor reports that the "Halo" and "Destiny" composer took to Kickstarter to raise $45,000 to develop the "Golem" musical album for Highwire Games' PlayStation 4 VR exclusive. At the time of writing, the "Halo" and "Destiny" composer has already progressed half-way into raising the target fund for the "Golem" album.

As with many Kickstarter projects, contribution to the "Halo" and "Destiny" composer's project will earn "Golem" album funders exclusive gifts and merchandise. More importantly, funders may also receive an invite from the "Halo" and "Destiny" composer to attend the live recording of the "Golem" album in Seattle, Washington.
