'General Hospital' Spoilers, News & Update: Stephen A. Smith Will Make A Guest Appearance; Show Earns 24 Nominations For Emmy

Viewers of the long-running soap opera "General Hospital" will see a new face on their favorite show. According to reports, American sports television personality Stephen A. Smith is heading in the "General Hospital."

Stephen A. Smith is a huge fan of "General Hospital." So, for sure his appearance in the show will also be delightful to him.

"I have four older sisters and when we came home from school, all the TVs in the house were on 'General Hospital,'" Stephen A. Smith told ESPN. "Since I wasn't allowed outside until I finished my homework, I watched the soap every day."

Maurice Benard, who plays as the mobster Sonny Corinthos in the show, learned about Smith's "General Hospital" fandom when he appeared on the latter's show "First Take." The actor told him that he will get Smith on the show and after a few months, the ESPN commentator got a role for "General Hospital."

Stephen A. Smith disclosed that his character in "General Hospital" is named Brick. He is a surveillance expert for Sonny and the mob.

Stephen A. Smith admitted that he felt pressured to be part of "General Hospital." He had to memorize lines and practiced to make his lines conversational. However, since he watches the show for several years already, he is already familiar and comfortable with Maurice's mannerism.

"I'm never nervous on First Take. It's my and Skip's domain. I'm extremely confident on ESPN. I felt like a fish out of water on the 'GH' set," Smith said about his experience in filming "General Hospital."

Meanwhile, it will be a great honor for Stephen A. Smith to be part of "General Hospital" because the soap has been gaining recognition for years. In fact, "General Hospital" earns 24 nominations for the upcoming 43rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, ABC reported.

Their nominations include Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Costume Design, Oustanding Makeup for a Drama Series and more. Finola Hughes (Anna Devane), Maura West (Ava Jermoe) and Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos) are nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series while Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos), Tyler Christopher (Nikolas Cassadine) and Anthony Geary (Luke Spencer) are nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
