Man's Hand Attached to His Ankle for a Month

A man's hand was severed from an accident and in order to keep alive, doctors attached it to his ankle for a month, the Daily Mail reports.

Recently, doctors were able to successfully reattach the man's hand after a month of stitching it together with his ankle. Xiao Wei's right hand was severed due to an accident at work. He said: "I was just shocked and frozen at the spot, until co-workers unplugged the machine and retrieved my hand and took me to the hospital. Doctors from a local hospital in Changde said they cannot save his hands but referred him to a larger regional hospital. "I am still young, and I couldn't imagine life without a right hand." After seven hours, Wei arrived at a hospital in Changsha.

Doctors at a hospital in Changsha were hopeful that they could re-attach the hand but claimed that it will take time. So in order to stop it from dying, the doctors decided to attach it to Wei's ankle. One of the doctors said: "His injury was severe. Besides ripping injuries, his arm was also flattened. We had to clear and treat his injuries before taking on the hand reattachment surgery." A month after his accident, Wei had recovered enough to undergo the re-attachment surgery. The doctors also confirmed that Wei will be undergoing several other surgeries but they are confident in saying that he will be able to completely recover and use his hand again fully.
