Why 'Star Wars' Baby Names Are Trending With Parents

Master Yoda's force is no longer exclusive to Jedi warriors, but with thousands of babies in 2016. Parents naming their babies with characters from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is now becoming a trend.

The names Liam and Noah, as well as Emma and Olivia, remain in the top ten names, as cited in an article on WCSH6. While being pushed farther back in the list,  but coming on very strong are the names Rogue and Rebel, Han and Jedi, and Kylo and Rey. All are from "Star Wars" characters.

"With the seventh film of the Star Wars franchise currently in theaters - and earning very strong reviews - it seems parents have been 'awakened' to the baby name potential lurking out there in the galaxy," BabyCenter stated in a report. "And two names in particular are up in galactic proportions."

Ranking number 211, Leia remains the long-time choice for most parents, which got 64% over the past ten years.

The global editor-in-chief of BabyCenter, Linda Murray, was astonished by parents' interest in Kylo. This perhaps owes to the character's awesome rents in Han and Leia. Since 2015, the name Kylo dramatically zoomed up the boys' list by 67%. And in the same year, the name Rey for girls had amazingly rocketed up by 82%.

"The character Kylo Ren is such a negative force, but some parents may be attracted to the power and the darkness in this name. If you're edgy and a bit of an outlaw, you might gravitate toward a name like this," Murray articulated.

In contrast, the name Rey, the fierce Jedi warrior, is much easier to understand as a very attractive name, Murray said. "If you're looking for a strong girl's name that embodies power but still sounds beautiful, you can't do much better than Rey," she expressed.

Finn and Poe, the other "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" characters, did not seem to have a connection with parents. The names have not even moved in the rankings in the previous year.
