Baby Born at 25 Weeks Comes Home for the Holidays

A baby who was born at only 25 weeks and just one pound and 11 ounces was finally able to come home for the holidays after staying at the hospital for eight months, according to the Daily Mail.

Skylar Primrose Knight was finally allowed to come home to celebrate her first Christmas with her parents, Caroline and Richard, and her two siblings, Som, ten, and Summer, five. Caroline, 37 said: "When she's well she is a really happy and content little baby. When you see her smile, it just melts you. It will be lovely to have her back home for Christmas."

Baby Knight was born on April and weighed much less than a regular bag of sugar. Ever since her birth, she has been battling for her life at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital's neonatal intensive care unit. Initially, Skylar's parents expected that she will be born on July 26 but halfway through Caroline's pregnancy her water broke and found out thereafter that the baby was actually on its way. Her dad, Richard, 36, said: "We were told there was a 30 percent chance of survival and of that 30 percent there was only ten percent chance she would not have brain damage."

"They said babies born earlier than 24 weeks were classed as a miscarriage so the longer I kept her in, the better chance she had," he added. Just a few minutes after she was born, Skylar was placed on a ventilator to help her breathe and was fed with a special high-energy sugar solution. Upon knowing this, Mrs. Knight was reluctant to meet her newborn baby at first. "I think it was a bit of self-preservation - in case we lost her," she said.
