The Simpsons' Season 27 Air Date, News & Update: Smithers To Reveal Real Identity, Inspired By Writer's Son

"The Simpsons" Season 27 Episode 17, "The Burns Cage," will reveal the real identity of Waylon Smithers Jr. as a gay man. "The Simpsons" writer, Rob LaZebink, opened up that the new episode is actually inspired by his son's own story.

According to Vulture, Rob LaZebink admitted he thinks to write "The Simpsons" new episode inspired by his son, Johnny, is a good way to tell him that he loves him. Waylon Smithers has been keeping the closets for so long and Rob LaZebink believed "The Simpsons" viewer won't be surprised with the revelation.

Just like what Rob LaZebink have his son, he said Waylon Smithers needs is acceptance. As per Rolling Stone, Waylon Smithers finally admit his love for his boss, C. Montgomery Burns, will never be returned.

And so, Homer Simpsons will do everything to help his supervisor to find his own pair. Rob LaZebnik explained they won't let Waylon Smithers to "come out" as it is, but "just have it be a big embrace, like everyone knows it."

Moreover, New York Post reported Rob LaZebink revealed before he proposed Waylon Smithers' coming out, he is already thinking of that narrative three years ago.

Rob LaZebink even showed Waylon Smithers' script to his son, who later approved and gave his comments about the revelation. Johnny, on the other hand, shared he is happy to know someone, who understands to have a gay person in their family, is writing the script of Waylon Smithers.

"The revelation that my father loves me is not much of a revelation, thankfully. He's unbelievably accepting," Johnny, the 21-year-old senior psychology major and film minor at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, said. Johnny proudly explained he and his father has the closest relationship a straight dad and a gay son could have.
