What Every Parent Needs to Know to Keep Their Kids Safe From Child Abuse

April has been declared as Child Abuse Prevention Month, and for parents looking for more learning and knowledge on how to keep their children safely protected from the ravages of sexual abuse, The Family Place is holding a free seminar just for you.

The Family Place, formerly known as the Child and Family Support Center, will be holding a parenting symposium on April 14, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Four Seasons, 140 East 2200 North in North Logan, reports Cache Valley DailyThe symposium, titled "Making a Difference For Our Children," will feature speakers who know what they will talk about, says The Family Place Executive Director Esterlee Molyneux.

"We have three incredible and dynamic speakers," Molyneux said. "Two of them have been victims of child sexual abuse.

"What they are going to share is what every parent needs to know to keep their children safe," Molyneux added. "They are also going to talk about what they wish their parents had seen and understood as they were both suffering pretty difficult things."

According to the event poster, the speakers for the symposium are Ciera Pekarcik, Preston Jensen and Janae Moss. Pekarcik is the former Miss Utah 2013 and co-founder of Awareness and Sexual Abuse Prevention (ASAP). She will share her story of how she recovered from struggles with confronting sexual abuse.

Jensen, on the other hand, is the founder of ASAP. He will reportedly share his story on recovering from sexual abuse, as well as how he was able to bring his abuser to justice. Moss, founder of Parent Advocacy Council (PAC) and Parent Champion of Help Me Grow will share her strategies for strengthening families as well as empowering parents.

The free seminar is open to both parents and professionals. It also features free lunch, prize drawings and absolutely free admission. Those who want to register should call (435) 752-8880.
