Woman in Florida Found Guilty Of Caging and Ill-treating Boyfriend's Son

Sharon Glass, a Florida resident,  was found guilty of locking up and starving a 13-year old boy in a cage .

Glass and her boyfriend Michael Marshall were arrested in 2012 after they locked up Marshall's son in their home. The child was not given any food nor permitted to go to school during his confinement.

Glass has been charged with seven felonies including child abuse.

Glass was convicted on Friday after the victim (boy) testified earlier this week accusing his father and Glass of locking him up and barely feeding him. According to the boy, he was locked up in a closet, bathroom, zip-tied to the vertical post of a bunk bed and made to stay without food for long periods of time, reports the  Associated press.

Glass has refuted the claims stating she was aware of what her boyfriend was doing to his son but never directly took part in the crime. "And he was telling me what he did, and I said 'you can't do this, you can't do this. You can't do these things," said Glass, reports mynews13.

Assistant State Attorney William Scheiner stated Glass had knowledge of how Marshal was treating his son but she never intervened.

"I handled my children, (Michael Marshall) handled his," said Glass in a statement. According to the prosecutors Glass is equally responsible for the action (crime) as she did not prevent Marshall from ill-treating his son.

Marshall is charged with the same crime but his case is still pending with the court. According to media sources, the prosecutors have enough evidence against Marshall.

The boy was rescued in a very vulnerable state weighing only 40 pounds and is presently staying with his grandmother.
