Simon Cowell Surprises Everyone In An Emotional Farewell To American Idol

Simon Cowell made a surprise appearance in the grand finale of American Idol. After so many years, the show bids farewell and Cowell's co-host, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson also made a comeback for its final show.

Earlier last week, Simon Cowell told E! News that he will be out of the country for the finale of the show's 15th season. "At the moment, I'm due to be in another country, but I'm trying to work something out," he told the news site when asked about his plans for the two-hour series finale. To everyone's surprise, even to his former co-judges, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson, he turned up at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood last Thursday.

Along with other important figures in American Idol history, Cowell made his farewell and even apologized for his mean behaviours, adds People Magazine. "I just thought this would be a good [opportunity] on behalf of myself, Randy, Ryan - for Paula to apologize, over the years, for being so mean to the contestants," Cowell quipped when he joined former co-hosts.

In an emotional speech, he thanked America for welcoming the reality TV phenomena in their homes continuously for years. He added that he will surely miss the banters among his fellow judges, Abdul, and Jackson. Meanwhile, he also complimented the current judges, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr., before wishing the contestants good luck.

It wouldn't be a proper goodbye without Cowell, who is one of the reasons why the reality TV became such a huge hit. People Magazine admitted as much, letting the little go as it turned out for the best. Cowell will return as a judge for the next season of America's Got Talent, alongside Heide Klum, Howie Mandel, and Mel B.

Meanwhile, a follow-up report from People hints that American Idol may not be ultimately ending. As Ryan Seacrest, the show's long-time host said his goodbye spiel one last time, he can't help but add "For now." Watch Simon Cowell in American Idol grand finale:
