6-Year-Old Girl With Down Syndrome Wows Everyone With Her Dance Moves After Being Rejected From Dance School [Video]

Life is tougher for parents with children with special needs and one mom from Canada would certainly agree with this. Rearing a child with special needs is a battle that the family has to fight with every day because they can't be certain as to how the world will accept their family member with special needs.

Struggles with Down Syndrome

Sonja Malaniuk has a daughter named Ana, 6, who is diagnosed with Down syndrome. Anna loves dancing and Sonja noticed it. The little girl loves to dance when there's music and she loves the beat, so they decided to try it out. However, the battle was tough; one school rejected her due to her condition. "We were told she wasn't welcome, she wasn't to their standards," Sonja told Global News.

What is Down syndrome?

According to National Down Syndrome Society, this condition occurs when an individual has a full or partial extra copy of chromosome 21. Normally, the nucleus of each cell has 23 pairs of chromosomes with half of which inherited from each parent. The extra gene presents in individuals with Down syndrome alters the course of development and causes the characteristics associated with the said condition.

Most individuals with Down syndrome have low muscle tone, small built, an upward slant to the eye and a single deep crease across the center of their palms.

Mom Supports Daughter with Down syndrome

Despite the difficulties, Sonja is ready to support her daughter all the way. So, they moved to another place and found a school supportive of Ana's condition at Amanda's Academy of Dance in Edmonton.

"I just feel that it's very important that any little girl or boy who wants to dance should be able to dance and be given the opportunity," said Amanda Desousa, owner of the academy.
