MTV Movie Awards 2016: Will Smith Introduces Himself As The ‘Karate Kid’s’ Dad

Will Smith accepted his Generation Award at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards in Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank, California on Saturday. The "Men in Black" star introduced himself as the "Karate Kid's" dad that made everybody including his son, Jaden Smith, laughed.

According to Us Weekly, Will Smith graced the stage to accept his recognition with an invaluable speech. The 47-year-old started his dialogue by making fun of his lifetime achievement award, "[I] thought that was code for old-ass dude award," he said.

Will Smith, then, tell the story of his encounter with a young fan, who doesn't know him. "Oh my god, I don't know who you are!" the fan said as revealed by the "Suicide Squad" actor. He retaliated by saying he's the father of the "Karate Kid" star and the excitedly respond with, "Oh, my god, that's Jaden's dad!"

Jaden Smith was sitting in the audience while watching his father being proud of his movie, as per Seventeen. However, the "Pursuit of Happyness" star felt a little awkward as his dad was bragging about him.

Meanwhile, 2016 MTV Movie Awards prepared a special tribute to Will Smith. Before he came up to the stage, The Lonely Island sang his greatest hits like, "Gettin' Jiggy With It" and "Men in Black" while Queen Latifah and Halle Berry honored him.

Entertainment Weekly noted Will Smith took the chance to ponder his 30-year-long career in his speech. The husband of Jada Pinkett Smith recalled that he released his first album when he was 17 years old and in June will mark his 30th year in the business.

"I really want to say I'm humbled, and I just want all of you to know I'm dedicated to being a light in this world," Will Smith said. "There's a lot of suffering - a lot of people are suffering in this world. ... I just want all of you to know I'm dedicated until I die to light and to love."
