'Sleepy Hollow' Kills Off Lead: Series Will Return For Season 4 Without Nicole Beharie's Abbie Mills

"Sleepy Hollow" Season 3 finale unceremoniously killed off series lead Nicole Beharie, who plays Abbie Mills. Fox is reportedly in talks to return for "Sleepy Hollow" Season 4 without the familiar sight of Nicole Beharie as Abbie Mills.

People reported that fans are outraged by the "Sleepy Hollow" Season 3 finale that they promise never to watch the series again. An unfortunate sentiment given that plans are even now being worked out for the "Sleepy Hollow" series' return.

MoviePilot points out that "Sleepy Hollow" Season 4 may not stand a chance with the loss of Abbie Mills. Although actress Nicole Beharie had reportedly been looking to leave "Sleepy Hollow" long before the Season 3 finale, her presence in the show as Abbie Mills developed loyal fans along the way.

With her exit, "Sleepy Hollow" Season 4 may lose some of that loyal viewership and with it a much needed pillar in the ratings. Fox is yet to see if the fan outrage will calm down enough to give "Sleepy Hollow" Season 4 a fighting chance.

To their credit, Fox gave Nicole Beharie an impressive send-off from "Sleepy Hollow" despite the off-screen issues. Certainly, "Sleepy Hollow" proved its flair with Abbie Mills' end. Self-sacrifice has, forevermore, made a hero of Abbie Mills as far as "Sleepy Hollow" fans are concerned.

"Sleepy Hollow" showrunner Clifton Campbell is positive with the new direction the show will now take. Campbell states that "Sleepy Hollow" will bring in fresh outlook as the series continues in Season 4.

 According to The Hollywood Reporter, internal anticipation is high as "Sleepy Hollow" Season 4 is expected to contribute in filling the programming gap that "American Idol" will leave behind. Nicole Beharie's co-star Tom Mison, who plays Ichabod Crane, is said to be currently negotiating his contract with Fox for "Sleepy Hollow" Season 4.
