Zooey Deschanel Gets Real On Motherhood: 'New Girl' Star Did Not Stress on Her Post-Pregnancy Bod

Zooey Deschanel just got real on motherhood, particularly the high expectations to lose weight right after giving birth. The "New Girl" star said that it's just plain odd that mothers feel pressured to bring back their pre-baby bods right away.

In a recent interview with Redbook, Deschanel finds it absurd that most women feel pressured to go back to their pre-baby bods. "To expect someone to look like her pre-baby self immediately is odd," People quoted the "500 Days of Summer" actress. "Because you just grew a human and then birthed that human - there's a lot that needs to go back to where it was. All your organs move around, for Christ's sake!"

Today further added that the "Almost Famous" actress did not let the pressure affect her even before she gave birth. "Haven't we all seen those pictures of a sexy new mom in a bikini after one month? I will not be that person," the "New Girl" star told Cosmopolitan at the time. Deschanel said that new moms should take time and not rush shedding those pregnancy pounds

Deschanel welcomed daughter Elsie Otter in July with husband Jacob Pechenik. She took some off and recently went back to working. However, she isn't taking in as many projects as she used to. She feels that it would be good to take a step back from work and focus on family. She explained that there's still a whole lot of time to go after things but you'd miss a lot of valuable stuff in the process.

Deschanel appears on the May cover of Redbook Magazine. The 36-year-old star confirmed during the CinemaCon in Les Vegas that she will be returning to "New Girl" soon, reports Daily Mail UK. Check out the "New Girl" season 5 promo clip in the video below:
