'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 News: Ian Somerhalder Says Series Is Not Ending, But Could Be His Last; Nina Dobrev To Return In The Show?

Fans of "The Vampire Diaries" were stirred after hearing from Ian Somerhalder that the show is ending. The actor speaks again to clear things out.

"The Vampire Diaries" Is Not Ending After Season 8

Ian Somerhalder caught the attention of "The Vampire Diaries" fans after posting this statement on his social media account, "We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice." Per TV Guide, the statement was a follow up to his previous words last March, where Somerhalder lamented at how the TV series turned out.

"The Vampire Diaries" fans were quick to speculate that the series is ending after Season 8. However, a CW spokesperson denied that "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 is the last in the series. "No decision has been made" regarding the show's fate, clarified the spokesperson per Variety.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 Is Ian Somerhalder's Last

To clear things up, the "The Vampire Diaries" star, Ian Somerhalder issued another statement saying that the show is not ending but it could be his last.

"Last weekend I talked to an audience at a Q&A about the end of #TVD and how excited I was to make what I believe - my last year - be as great as possible. Somehow in my infinite wisdom and end-of-season foggy brain, I managed to make it sound like the show was coming to an end," he tweeted.

So, there is nothing to worry because "The Vampire Diaries" may extend beyond Season 8. Unfortunately, perhaps, minus Ian Somerhalder.

Nina Dobrev To Return In "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8

There is no doubt that "The Vampire Diaries" fans were disappointed when Nina Dobrev decided to leave "TVD." Many can't imagine the show without Elena but Nina Dobrev had decided to move on.

New reports claim that Nina Dobrev might return to "The Vampire Diaries" series. "TVD" executive producer Julie Plec disclosed that she is very open to the idea of working with Dobrev again even just for the finale.

"There is still a chapter of [Elena's] story left to be told," Plec told TV Line. She added that she will "take [Dobrev] for whatever she's willing to do to tell that story."
