'The Winds of Winter' Release Date, News & Update: 'TWOW' Delayed Due To 'GoT' Spinoff; Book Confirmed For January 2017 Release?

HBO's popular drama-fantasy TV series, "Game of Thrones" will soon face its goodbye in the small screens because the book series that inspired it is also about to end. In fact, after the anticipated, "The Winds of Winter," the story is down to two more books only. New reports suggest that "TWOW" is delayed due to a "GoT" spinoff.

George RR Martin Open To A New HBO Spinoff While Working on "TWOW"

At the time, George RR Martin has been disappointing fans for the delay of "The Winds of Winter." The readers of "A Song of Ice and Fire" novel series has been waiting for "TWOW" for four years and counting but it remains in the dark. Now, Martin is showing his interest in doing another spinoff for HBO even before finishing "The Winds of Winter."

The celebrity author believes that he has a lot of material for HBO if they are interested. "The most natural follow-up would be an adaptation of my Dunk & Egg stories," George RR Martin told Entertainment Weekly. Per the reports, this storyline is set in the same world of "ASOIAF," only that it happens 90 years earlier before Tyrion, Daenerys and Arya come to life.

"The Dunk & Egg" follows the story of Ser Duncan the Tall, who later become a member of the Kingsguard, and his squire Egg, who later become King Aegon V Targaryen of Westeros. Currently, there are three books in the series and more are being planned.

With Martin thinking about a potential spinoff following "GoT," does this suggest that he is not focusing on finishing "The Winds of Winter?" Why is he still thinking about other opportunities after missing "TWOW's" deadline?

"The Winds of Winter" Out In January 2017

At the time, George RR Martin remains mum about the release date of "The Winds of Winter" while showing his interest about a potential "GoT" spinoff. Will this hinder his progress on finishing "TWOW?" Will the book be out in January 2017? What do you think about the release date of "The Winds of Winter?" Share your thoughts below.
