"Sherlock" Season 4 teaser photos from the cast members are not really giving away any details about the upcoming season, reports Cnet. However, one must take note that showrunner Mark Gatiss has been posting back shots of Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and that of a mysterious lady.

This seemingly confirms rumors that Moriarty will be back in "Sherlock" Season 4. According to Heat World, Moriarty made a shocking appearance in a TV broadcast in Season 3.

"Did you miss me?" asks Moriarty.

Aside from this surprising appearance, co-creators Gatiss and Steven Moffat previously announced that "Sherlock" Season 4 will be dealing with ghosts of the past. This can be taken as a hint or even a confirmation that Moriarty is indeed returning to the BBC series.

"Ghosts of the past are rising in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, bringing adventure, romance and terror in their wake," they said.

"Sherlock" Season 4 is also rumored to be the show's series finale after Gatiss and Moffat revealed that the story is "about to reach its climax." This led to speculations that the show is coming to an end, especially because Cumberbatch and Freeman have been busy with their respective schedules.

"Sherlock" Season 4 is also rumored to see the death of Watson's wife, Mary, from childbirth. There are also rumors that the show will introduce Sherlock's third brother and Tom Hiddleston is being poised to play the role.

"Sherlock" Season 4 is expected to premiere in January 2017 on BBC.
