'Borderlands' Movie News: 'Iron Man' Producer, 'GI Joe 3' Writer Confirmed For Live Action Of Gearbox Software Franchise

The live action adaptation of "Borderlands" makes progress, bagging "GI Joe 3" and "Section 6" writer Aaron Berg. "Borderlands," which is the most successful franchise of Gearbox Software by far, will also have "Iron Man" producer Arad Productions at the decision-making seat.

Destructoid cites Hollywood reported in likening the "Borderlands" film treatment to a space version of "Mad Max." "Borderlands" is expected to bear a tag of an R-rating. At best, "Borderlands" will also reportedly have an experimental feel to it.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aaron Berg should be up for the challenge that "Borderlands" will pose in theme and expectation. Aaron Berg is hopping onto the "Borderlands" train fresh off the highly anticipated project "Section 6."

The film is a take on the beginnings of the British agency MI6. Aaron Berg is also the screenplay writer for "G.I. Joe 3." Arad Productions, on the other hand, is composed of the father and son team of Avi and Ari Arad.

Avi and Ari Arad have been at the helm of such film adaptations as "Iron Man," "Spiderman" (2002) and "X-Men" (2000). "Borderlands has a unique story-driven narrative energy and rich multi-dimensional characters that position it to become a singular motion picture event," Arad Productions stated.

The "Borderlands" film is expected to stay close to the Gearbox Software game and take the story through Pandora. VG247, however, points out that the "Borderlands" movie could do well with improving the story depth.

This is among the more criticized aspects of the "Borderlands" game. However, the use of humor and the game's band of characters are the strengths of "Borderlands."

Casting for the "Borderlands" film is yet to be announced. At the moment not many expect to hear any update on the "Bordlerlands" movie release date just yet either.
