'Snowden' Film Stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt As NSA Whistle-blower

The movie about National Security Agency (NSA) whistle-blower Edward Snowden is coming to cinemas by September. Main star Joseph Gordon-Levitt was shown in a recently released trailer of the movie giving a commendable portrayal of the computer professional.

According to Newsweek, the official trailer of the movie "Snowden" was released on Wednesday and revealed characters in the film including Gordon-Levitt, Nicolas Cage and Shailene Woodley. It is directed by Oliver Stone and will come out in cinemas on September 16.

In one part of the trailer, Gordon-Levitt was seen talking to a colleague about the controversial surveillance programs run by the NSA. "Think of it is a Google search," his co-worker was heard as saying. "Except instead of searching only what people make public, we're also looking at everything they don't—e-mails, chats, SMS, whatever."

"Yeah, but which people?" the Snowden character asked. He received an answer that revealed that everyone was being watched.

Newsweek added that the teaser of the movie also reveals that the film will expose the untold story Snowden and how authorities hunted him after he exposed illegal surveillance by the NSA.

"He is considered a hero by some, and a traitor by others," read the description of the trailer. "No matter which you believe, the epic story of why he did it, who he left behind, and how he pulled it off makes for one of the most compelling films of the year."

Daily Mail noted that the film trailer reveals that the upcoming movie will be a much-awaited "espionage thriller" than just a simple presentation of the life of Snowden and how he became a most wanted man.

One of the most exciting parts of Snowden's story in the movie was when he snuck out a thumb drive filled with classified documents using a Rubix Cube which he passed to a security officer prior to entering a scanning machine. He then leaks this information to Glen Greenwald prior to running from the hands of the authorities.
