"Person of Interest" Season 5 has been officially confirmed as the series finale after much speculation among fans and viewers of the show. Rumors about the show's cancellation began after CBS decided to reduce the episode order for "POI" Season 5.

Since then, fans have raised an online petition in Change.org in hopes to save "Person of Interest" from cancellation after Season 5. The petition also calls on the attention of other networks, including Netflix, to renew the series and continue the story of Team Machine.

As of writing, the petition has already garnered over 34,000 supporters. While it remains to be seen whether "Person of Interest" will be renewed in another network after Season 5, series creator Greg Plageman recently shared his thoughts on continuing the story for more seasons in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"We're not in any discussions right now about that, but let's just put it this way: Never say never. The version of this show that we have has more story that we could tell, but I think that by the end of this season, viewers will be very satisfied," said Plageman.

Co-creator Jonathan Nolan also told the publication that they will still be ending "Person of Interest" Season 5 with some loose ends, but not "so much as blow things up." There also appears to be a tragic ending for Root (Amy Acker) and Shaw (Sarah Shahi).

"Yes, there will be fireworks in all different directions, but this is the final season, so anyone looking for a happy ending will be sadly, probably disappointment," said Nolan.

"Person of Interest" Season 5 premieres on May 9 on CBS.
