The Shallows Movie News And Update: Trailer Of Blake Lively Battling For Her Life Against Deadly Shark

A fair reminder for those who have yet to watch the newly-released The Shallows trailer: If you're heading to the beach this summer, don't catch the movie first. The season's upcoming film which stars Blake Lively as Nancy, a surfer who goes on a solo trip, will fight for her life as she gets stranded 200 yards from the seashore with a shark ready to devour her.

Famous for her role as the New Yorker rich, It-Girl, Serena van der Woodsen in The CW's Gossip Girl and the free-spirited babe, Bridget Vreeland, in The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants, Blake Lively shows another side of her in new thriller, The Shallows. She pulls off her acting chops and delivers her character's, and might as well be the viewers' shrieks, as the blue water turns into red and a shark's fin is seen at bay.

The movie's trailer first sets the scene by showing the deep, mighty ocean. A woman surfaces above and we see that it's Blake Lively with her surfing board. Obviously, she went alone with some surfing dudes asking her to join them. It's still unknown why she went on a beach trip but certainly, it wasn't what she expected it to turn out to be. A bloodbath follows after as the other surfers get eaten alive by a shark in front of Nancy's shocked eyes. She knows she's next. The big question that the trailer leaves is, "Will Nancy survive?"

Deadline describes the plot as "The Jaws" and "127 Hours" combined with the white shark as villain and a lone survivor's quest to stay breathing. MTV sees it as The Revenant which also revolves around a bloody solo man's journey to survival. In any case, the Bustle relieves potential moviegoers that the film is entirely fiction.

The film is directed by Jaume-Collet Serra and more than half of it will be starred by Blake Lively and her predator, the white shark. It will hit U.S. theaters this year on June 29 and U.K. cinemas on August 12.
