Kate Middleton revealed that the royal family has a new family member and Princess Charlotte loves him. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge never spoke about the family addition until Kate Middleton disclosed the secret at the Magic Garden opening at Hampton Court Palace.

Kate Middleton opened up about the secret royal family member to a 9-year old student from St John the Baptist Junior School of Hampton Wick. According to Report U.K., Kate Middleton told Darcey that as young as Princess Charlotte, Prince George's little sister already appreciates the new royal family member.

The Duchess of Cambridge said that Princess Charlotte especially loves having Marvin the hamster tickle her cheeks with his whiskers. The royal pet has been living with Princess Charlotte and Prince George at Kensington Palace.

Allowing Princess Charlotte and Prince George to grow up with pets is a reportedly a sound decision by Kate Middleton and Prince William. Similar to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, many parents believe in the benefit of allowing their children to care for pets.

National Kids and Pets Day was recently celebrated in the US. According to South Florida Reporter, the event highlighted the bond that children and animals share. Besides learning responsibility and compassion, children are also helped to overcome shyness and learning disabilities by caring for pets.

Celebrity Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert Colleen Paige emphasized the benefits of adopting a pet into a family. "The future of our children and their ability to show compassion toward animals and each other, depends on us, to give them the skills necessary to make the world a better, kinder place to live," Colleen Paige said.

However, safety is as much a thrust of the event. "National Kids and Pets Day encourages parents to never leave small children alone with dogs and cats and other animals that have the potential to cause them harm," Colleen Paige stressed.
