‘Descendants of the Sun’ Season 2 Air Date, Cast, News & Update: Song Joong-ki, Song Hye-kyo Not Returning For Second Installment? 'DOTS 2' Arriving In 2017?

The popularity of the "Descendants of the Sun" is undeniable that main stars Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo have also enjoyed the attention and fame that they are getting since the much-loved Korean TV series premiered. Now, new reports are claiming that "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2 is coming very soon but Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo are not returning as main casts.

Several fans have celebrated when it was first confirmed that "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2 will soon be in the works. It was Jung So-ho, KBS Drama Department President, who said that "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2 is coming and it would likely come in 2017.

"We want to repay viewers with the next Descendants of the Sun," the "Descendants of the Sun" creator Jung So-ho said. "We are grateful to viewers, overseas fans, staff, and actors."

"The drama was more than a domestic syndrome; it established a third wave of Hallyu. KBS will strive to produce a second Descendants of the Sun to meet expectations and repay viewers," Jung So-ho added on. "We plan to launch a 2017 Descendants of the Sun project for broadcast in 2017 through negotiations with the cast and production team."

However, despite the confirmed return of "Descendants of the Sun" for Season 2, a lot of "DOTS" followers cannot completely celebrate. Rumor mills are spreading that the upcoming installment will not be a sequel to the first.

Song Joong-ki, Song Hye-kyo not returning for 'Descendants of the Sun' Season 2

With that being said, reports about Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo not returning fot the upcoming "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2 have surfaced and spread like wildfire. Several fans were even more devastated when "Descendants of the Sun" writer Kim Won Suk said that he is not sure whether not Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo will still be the main casts in the second installment.

Furthermore, "Descendants of the Sun" writer Kim Won Suk divulged that there is a huge possibility that the "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2 will not be a sequel but a whole new show with an original story. He also said that he does not want to stretch the story of the "Descendants of the Sun" and based the Season 2 from it.

What is worse is when "Descendants of the Sun" actor Song Joong-ki reportedly said that he might be quitting showbiz very soon. The 30-year-old "DOTS" actor revealed in a press conference that he is tired of fans and media evading his privacy, which makes him think of retiring very early.
