Internet Is Freaked Out Over The Instagram New Logo

The news that Instagram changed its logo is all over the Internet. The vintage camera icon of the popular app was changed on Wednesday and the Internet just freaked out.

Instagram Internet Freakout

The 10th most popular app in the United States changed its icon into a square symbol, looking like a camera but smeared with fuchsia with a minimal geometric design. New York Times called the reaction a "freakout," reporting on resulting memes and gifs that logo change brought.

According to Instagram, the new logo reflects how the company grew tremendously over the years. "The simpler design puts more focus on your photos and videos without changing how you navigate the app," the company said. "Our updated look reflects how vibrant and diverse your storytelling has become." However, the Internet thinks otherwise.

An explosion of memes invades the Internet. Check out another one:

Instagram Ends Nostalgia Era

Meanwhile, The Atlantic  said that the changing of the logo is the end of a nostalgic era. However, the news site admitted that it's just a matter of time before the Internet accepts its new logo. Armin Vit from Brand New said, "It will only be a matter of time- three months, probably-before this is known, recognized, and considered as the Instagram app icon."

The news site noted that the original logo exuded all the delighted optimism of early 2010 technology. When Instagram first launched, it branded itself as a comfortable nostalgia, calling its filters with Polaroid-inspired names. The old logo conveyed a warmth, neighbourliness and permanence of a distant past.

There are calls for Instagram to change back to its original logo. AdWeek calls the new Instagram logo as a "travesty." While Instagram hoped it could modernize its logo, the news site wondered why there was a need to modernize at all. It's calling for Instagram to revert back to its nostalgic logo.
