Google News And Update: New App Gboard Provides Your iOS Keyboard A Built-In Google Search

The Google headquarters are brimming with creative geniuses who can't stop providing millenials some terribly, tempting apps to download. Exclusive for iOS devices, Google just recently launched a new app called Gboard that lets you experience a built-in Google search in the form of your phone's own keyboard.

How Gboard Works

TechCruch explains how Gboard works: No need to access the Google app or launch Safari, you can just press the Google icon, or the "G" sign, and type your query (GIFs and emojis included!). You can easily link articles of your interest, restaurant choices, flight schedules, and anything you want to share with just a few taps of your finger. The app is also useful when making a note or an e-mail in your phone, or just about anywhere you use the iOS keyboard.

After typing your query in the search box provided, a list of various sites would appear in cards. Once you choose a site and tap it, it will immediately be displayed as hyperlinked text on the document you're working on or on your conversation with a friend. If you want to send it as an image without losing the necessary details, choose Paste on the iOS' Edit menu.

Instead also of going through all the available emojis to find what you want, you can just key in a defining term on Gboard and the matching emoji will surface. For example, you want the flag of Japan or an airplane, type in those words and the related emojis will appear below. Gboard also allows you to search for GIFs from multiple sources that are conveniently sorted. You can go to the GIF search by tapping a button below your emoji selection that will switch to a display of GIFs. You can choose from predefined categoties by typing your search keyword.

To make typing with one hand easier and quicker, Gboard applies Glide typing, according to Wired. Without using the spacebar, you can glide type by using a single finger.

Since Apple doesn't allow microphone access to any third-party keyboard, you would have to do without it, should you choose to download Gboard. Say bye to Siri or Apple's dictation mic once this app is installed because the microphone just won't work anymore. Another con is that at present, it only uses the English language.

According to 9T05Mac, Google announced the coming of this app months before. It comes after the release of iOS 8 that lets Apple support third-party keyboards like one from Microsoft, others and this Gboard from Google.

Why Do We Need Gboard?

As per Wired, Gboard saves a tremendous amount of time for you. It emphasizes that you don't have to transfer from one app to another when for instance, you're talking to a friend on Messenger about your current location. It also makes it easier for you to get everything you want from one app alone as opposed to accessing other non-affliated Google apps. Instead of summoning Apple Maps or Yelp, it's much more convenient to use the Gboard in order to get directions, answer to queries, etc.
