Instagram Logo Update: How People Reacted To IG's Modification

The recent makeover of the Instagram logo did not seem to please all users. Though some loved its new look, many wanted to have the old logo back.

According to AdWeek, a lot of people considered the logo change on Wednesday as one of the "biggest design fails" of 2016. It replaced the formerly loved brown camera icon which has long been associated with the social media app.

It was noted that Instagram developers felt that the old logo has already served its purpose and that it was now time for a new design. Instagram design head Ian Spalter said that the old camera icon was "beginning to feel, well... not reflective of the community, and we thought we could make it better."

In explaining the look of the application, the AdWeek report said Instagram wanted to have something modern for its logo as well as a "brighter, flatter option." The company was able to come up with a rainbow-colored design that was a far cry from the traditional logo design.

Aesthetics researcher Alexis Anais Avedision told Forbes that the new icon does not fit for cool kids of this generation. "The new Instagram logo means the brand is done promoting nostalgia for analog and is instead embracing 'the digital' aka 2012 net art aesthetic," Avedision added.

The Atlantic also mentioned that the new logo design of Instagram also dropped the "nostalgia era" which the application previously represented with its logo and app design. Now, it hopes to have a minimalist design with a black and white interface.

"The most difficult part was once you decide to move on from a beloved icon, how far do you go?" Spalter said in a BGR report. "A lot of the process was figuring what to keep and let go. Are you evolving far enough or not enough, so that you'll just end up revisiting it in a year?"

He claimed that he is prepared to take a vacation when the backlash for the new logo starts. What do you think of Instagram's new look? Hit us up in the comments below!
