Elizabeth Banks Has Second Son via Gestational Surrogate

Elizabeth Banks is a mom again, and it's another boy. The 38-year-old actress and husband Max Handelman welcomed their second son Magnus Mitchell Handelman via gestational surrogate.

The new mom confirmed the news on her website.

"As 2012 winds down and Thanksgiving approaches, I have much for which to be thankful - personal, professional, and Presidential. However, nothing can match the joy and excitement my husband and I felt when we recently welcomed our second baby boy, Magnus Mitchell Handelman," Banks shared her happiness with her well-wishers, Nov.14. In gestational surrogate birth process the child is conceived using Elizabeth's egg and her husband's sperm.

Banks met her husband Handelman, a sports writer and producer during her college days in 1992 and married him in 2003. The couple has a 20-month son Felix via surrogate.

During the announcement the proud mom, who starred in the "What To Expect When You're Expecting" also mentioned and conveyed her gratitude to all of her well-wishers.

"Magnus joins older brother Felix, thus commencing a decade or more of close hand to hand combat," she wrote. "Like Felix, Magnus was born via gestational surrogate. This experience has exceeded all expectations, taught us a great deal about generosity and gratitude, and established a relationship that will last a lifetime. I am also so very thankful to our family and friends for their support throughout this process, as well as the Center for Surrogate Parenting for helping make all this possible.

"I now turn my attention to managing two boys under two. For which I am thankful. And all their poop. For which I am less thankful. Wish me luck," she wrote.

Earlier this year, the actress had revealed her pregnancy problems and the role of surrogate in her life.

"It was a womb issue for me. Embryos wouldn't implant," Us Weekly quoted Banks as saying in the February issue of Lucky. "It's a big leap, inviting this person into your life to do this amazing, important thing for you. And it's hard losing that kind of control. But our surrogate is so extraordinary, and she's still in our lives. She like an auntie."

Banks who made her entry into the film world with "Surrender Dorothy" is popular for her roles in films  like "The Hunger Games," "The Uninvited," "Pitch Perfect" and "Wet Hot American Summer."
