Weather Woman Interrupted On Air, Asked To Wear Cardigan To Cover Up Party Dress

A KTLA weather woman was handed a cardigan to cover up her dress while she was delivering a forecast live on television last Saturday. A production crew member was caught on camera handing her a cardigan.

The Sun said meteorologist Liberté Chan was given a cardigan after some viewers complained that her outfit was not appropriate for someone who delivers weather news. In the video below, Chan can be seen wearing an above-the-knee black dress with spaghetti straps.

She can be heard in the footage asking the crew why they were making her wear a cardigan. "Why? Because it's cold? I look like a librarian now," Chan commented.

Viewers complained

The same report noted that someone from the production team said that they received complaints from viewers through emails about the weather reporter's outfit. "Looks like she stayed out late at a party and came to work in the same dress," read one comment cited by The Sun. "Not appropriate for the morning weather report," another stated.

According to News.com.au, Chan defended herself by explaining that she was asked to wear another dress for the morning news show but "it didn't work" and that it "keyed out" against the green screen background. On her Twitter page, the reporter said there is no way to "beat a black beaded dress" even during the early morning news.

'Sexist' move

Netizens observed that the weather woman was embarrassed during the show which she was able to handle professionally. Many also supported Chan saying it was a "sexist" move from the crew and that there was nothing wrong with her dress.

It was added in The Sun report that a Facebook user even said it was unprofessional to interrupt someone while doing their job on national television. "...and speak to you in such a patronising way because they immediately and unquestioningly prioritise the complaints of sexist viewers over their trust of your judgment," continued the post cited by the same report.
