Prince George already making the girls cry

Prince George managed to make a little girl cry at his first official royal engagement by innocently grabbing her arm.

The playdate took place in the Blundell Room at the Government House, the residence of the Queen's official representative in New Zealand.

Ten lucky babies born around the royal prince's own birthday, July 22 of last year, from the Wellington area were chosen. William and Kate used the opportunity to swap parenting stories and give little George a more normal play experience.

"He does see other babies, but not many in a group like this," one attendee, Grant Collins, commented.

The "rather gorgeous bruiser" of a baby, as described by one onlooker, wore navy smocked dungarees with a sailboat design on the front by British brand Rachel Riley. The Duchess of Cambridge wore a black and white Tory Burch knitted dress.

When George spotted playfellow Paige, he waved his arms to get her attention before grabbing her toy wooden doll, making her cry.

"Paige grabs toys, she's just started teething," Paige's mom Jenny Stevens reassured Kate, the Daily Mail reports.

Kate replied: "George too."

After handing George a blue plastic block that he then proceeded to throw on the ground, Kate, 31, laid her restless son down. George happily crawled around, snatching toys that caught his eye. The future king already knows how to command attention.

"George is bubbly, quite feisty and he took control. He crawled to the center of the room and he owned the place," Magda Gurbowicz, 35, commented.

Kate looked on with a watchful eye as Prince William gabbed with other parents amidst the ruckus.

"It's madness, there are babies everywhere!" he exclaimed.

The Royal New Zealand Plunket Society, which offers free parental support services to new babies, sponsored the event.

"It was a pleasure sharing our beautiful baby with the duke and duchess. The whole thing was a wonderful highlight," fellow parents Ryan Tunstall said of the engagement.
