Sexual Assault In Schools: Sexual Assault Reports Between Two 7-Year-Old Boys In Library Resulted To Changes In Policies

Two 7-year-olds were the subject of conversations of many Liberty, Mo parents, after reports of sexual assault between these two first-graders surfaced. The purported venue was an area in the Ridgeview Elementary School's library.

Sexual Contact In Library

Fox4KC reported that the two boys were allegedly engaged in sexual contact in an area of the library that is not so visible to staff. The said incident occurred on May 9, an hour before dismissal.

Gary Major, head of safety and security of the school district said that the incident didn't take long. It was a brief, several-seconds incident, which if proven true, didn't go unnoticed.

Reports have it that the story circulated among parents because a student purportedly heard about the incident and told an adult. One parent who had heard about the whole thing said during an interview, "These are our children, you know. We have a right to know what's going on in their school."

Small Library Corners

According to Major, there are a couple of small corners in the school library that remains hidden from the view of the library administrator. Under normal circumstances, the administrator would have difficulty in seeing these small corners. He also mentioned that the alignment of the shelves has something to do with obscuring these areas from the administrator's view.

KCTV 5 reported that the boy who sexually assaulted the other is still attending school but he has an adult companion to ensure that he does not repeat the alleged incident. On the other hand, the instigating student is still in class, something which still worries parents.

Liberty School District sent a message to Ridgeview families, ensuring the latter that the former is addressing the situation. Emphasis was given to the fact that minimal details on the investigation can be made public due to the minority of the persons involved. The letter also states that the matter is being handled in accordance with district policies.
