Celebrities Now Turning To Cupping Therapy For Wellness

Cupping, as a wellness therapy, is now slowly becoming famous among celebrities. This practice has become sought after because of the health benefits and relaxation it gives people.

Racked said many celebrities have shown on social media their so-called "cupping wounds" after a therapy session. Some of these personalities included Justin Bieber, Lena Dunham, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston and Victoria Beckham.

In an Instagram post, Dunham posted a photo of her back with round red marks left by the cups used for the therapy. The post came with the caption "Da Cure."

The practice of cupping, as per Racked, began in ancient China and is supported by scientific research to prove how effective it is. Cupping therapist Dr. Norma Azucena Dolmo said various countries in the world use this cupping process to treat illnesses like diabetes, colds and flu, among others.

Many may still be wondering how the cupping is done during therapy sessions. According to WebMD, this alternative medicine makes use of cups, bamboo or other earthenware placed at the back of a person to facilitate the better flow of blood.

A flammable material like paper is placed inside the cup and set on fire before placing it on top of the patient's skin. When the cup cools, a vacuum is created causing the skin to rise and the blood vessels to expand.

Usually, a cup is placed on a person's skin for five to 10 minutes. This period of time usually ensures that the blood is already flowing better, helping a person feel relaxed.

This wellness method is known to be a great way to relieve body pain, migraine, fatigue and also fight anxiety, Pacific College said. It also said that this can be used for weight loss with the addition of oil for the skin.
