Rare Brain Disorder Prompts 42-Year-Old English Mother To Go Naked In Public; Embarrassing Side Effect Is Ruining Her Life

A 42-year-old English mother is suffering from hypothalamic hamartoma, a rare brain disorder that prompts her to go naked in public every time it strikes. She said that the strange and embarrassing side effect of the condition is ruining her life.

Hypothalamic Hamartoma: The Rare Brain Disorder & Its Side Effect

Leanne Lyon, a mother-of-two from the town of Northampton in the East Midlands of England, is suffering from a rare brain disorder called hypothalamic hamartoma, a non-cancerous brain tumor that may occur during fetal development or at birth. The effects of this rare brain disorder may vary from patient to patient and these include behavioral problems, seizures, blackouts and memory loss.

Lyon told the Daily Mail that the rare brain disorder would make her have up to five seizures every day, with each seizure lasting up to 30 minutes. She revealed that most seizures have a strange and embarrassing side effect as she would unconsciously strip down to her underwear even in public. She is also at risk of wetting herself publicly.

"When I have really bad seizures, it's sort of like sleep walking and I don't know the full extent of what's happening. Until I come round and I realize I've taken my clothes off," the English mother narrated.

The Rare Brain Disorder Is Ruining Her Life

Lyon said that at a glance, people would think that there is nothing wrong with her but in reality, the rare brain disorder has already taken a toll on her life. She revealed that hypothalamic hamartoma has made her incapable of caring for her children and in getting a stable job. "It's mortifying, and it's ruining my life," she stated.

The English mother, however, affirmed that she will not allow the rare brain disorder to completely ruin her life. At present, she is trying to raise $145,000 for a keyhole surgery in the U.S. as the procedure is not yet offered in the U.K.

"I'm desperate to find a way to beat this tumor. It would mean the world to me if I could just take my kids to the park without needing constant supervision," Lyon expressed.
