Next James Bond: Tom Hiddleston Out, Gillian Anderson In? Actress Reacts To 007 Agent Campaign

While Tom Hiddleston seems to be leading the choice to play the next James Bond, a new name has cropped up that has fans all riled up. Gillian Anderson might not be a conventional pick, but there is an ongoing fan campaign for her to become the new 007 agent.

Parent Herald reports that current James Bond, Daniel Craig, has confirmed he has rejected a new contract that will have him play the iconic role for a few more years. Now, the hunt is on for his replacement and some of the leading choices include Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba and Tom Hardy.

However, fans have other ideas, if only the public can actually decide who can play the role. Gillian Anderson's name was buzzed about over the weekend. Entertainment Weekly reports that while the star is American-born, she has resided in London for quite some time, especially in her childhood.

"The X-files" actress even shared a photo of a fan-made poster on Twitter, which depicted her as the next James Bond. Thanking fans for the poster and the vote of confidence, Gillian Anderson expressed that she actually loves the idea. She called herself "Jane Bond."

The Wrap reports that the next James Bond movie is going to be the twenty-fifth iteration of the franchise, which started in 1962 with "Dr. No" starring Sean Connery. There is still no confirmed title and release date, but whoever will be picked will be the seventh actor to play the character.

Reports also say that Tom Hiddleston have actually met with Sam Mendes, who is behind the next James Bond movie. Mendes also directed the most recent Bond flick, "Spectre," which would make it Daniel Craig's last.
