‘Descendants Of The Sun’ Season 2 No Longer Happening? Song Joong Ki, Song Hye Kyo Busy Schedules A Big Issue For ‘DOTS’ Sequel?

"Descendants of the Sun" Season 2 is one of the most highly anticipated sequels following the success of the KBS2 drama's first season. While the network has announced that the upcoming season will serve as a meant to "repay viewers" of "DOTS," signs seemingly point towards the unlikelihood of the sequel from happening.

'Descendants Of The Sun' Season 2: Will It Still Happen?

In an earlier interview with KBS drama department head Jung Sung Ho, he revealed that "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2 is possible, reports Soompi. According to Jung, this will be the network's means to repay the viewers' support for the show's first season.

"KBS will strive to produce a second 'Descendants of the Sun' to meet expectations and repay viewers. We plan to launch a 2016 'Descendants of the Sun' project for broadcast in 2017 through negotiations with the cast and production team," he said.

While the network appeared optimistic about the possibility of a "DOTS" sequel, there appears to be a lot of challenges ahead should Season 2 really happen.

'Descendants Of The Sun' Sequel: Casting, Scheduling And Filming Difficulties

Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo received a lot of love and support from fans across the globe following their successful appearance in "Descendants of the Sun." While fans are expecting to see the "Song-Song" couple return to the small screens, their busy schedules are already making it difficult for them to reprise their roles in the show.

Writer Kim Won Suk has also refused to work on a script for "DOTS 2." The Korea Tourism Ministry has also rejected Taebaek City's request for budget to restore the show's filming set to promote the city's tourism, reports Korea Herald.

Fans, however, debated that "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2 may still be filmed in another location since the Taebaek filming site was used for scenes in Urk. There are also rumors that the sequel will focus on Seo Dae Yeong and Yoon Myeong Ju's relationship instead.
