Exercise The New Cancer Therapy

Lifestyle is an important factor in cancer. Previous studies suggested that regular exercise can save you from cancer. However, aside from this, according to new reports, keeping active is also an effective therapy to combat the disease.

Sedentary Lifestyle Increases Risk Of Cancer & Other Diseases

According to the Cancer Research UK, lack of physical activity increases one's risk of cancer. A 2011 study estimated that one percent of cancers in the UK or around 3,400 cases are linked to doing less than the government guidelines for physical activity each week.

An inactive lifestyle is also linked to other health problems like diabetes, osteoporosis, stroke and heart disease. Another study about physical activity and global health also estimated that 5.3 million of the 57 million deaths worldwide were due to physical inactivity.

Aside from keeping you away from cancer, according to GizMag, regular exercise is also efficient in combating cancer. Yes, you read it right. Exercise is a potential treatment for fighting cancer. In fact, it can be as effective as medication.

Fred Saad, urologist-oncologist at the University of Montreal Hospital Research also believes that exercise is beneficial to cancer patients. Keeping active can potentially increase one's lifespan.

"Normally, patients at this stage have a life expectancy of two to three years. We want to reduce mortality by at least 22 percent, which represents about six months of longer survival," he said per Newsmax Health. "This is the equivalent benefit of a new drug. Exercise could, therefore, supplement available treatments, inexpensively."
