College Dream Realized: Daughter Graduates Nursing School...And So Does Her Dad!

A father and his daughter managed to achieve what they thought would not be possible. They graduated and earned their nursing degree together and the feat is indeed a cause for celebration in the family.

Jamie Cernobyl, who worked as a welder for the last 33 years, decided to enroll in nursing school after learning that his youngest daughter, Erica, had a similar plan. Erica already earned a college degree as a sociologist, but she wanted to pursue nursing after realizing that this was what she really wants to do. The father was inspired that his daughter wanted to attain her dreams, so he also thought of doing the same thing.

Nursing, A Long Time Dream

Jamie Cernobyl revealed that being a nurse has been his longtime dream too. So, together, the dad and daughter enrolled at Northampton Community College a few years back. Their graduation has made history in the family and in the school.  Per ABC 7, the school is not aware of any case similar to the Cernobyls as no other father-daughter duo has enrolled in the college before.

Dad And Daughter, Truly A Proud Moment

For her part, Erica was pleased to have her dad in the same classes as her. She told the press that they were able to push each other in school. "I always do better of course!" Erika joked, per WFMZ. Erica also looks up to her dad, not just in matters concerning school, but in every aspect. She hopes she would marry someone like him someday. She describes her father as "caring, loving and puts you first," per Fox TV.

Jamie Cernobyl has two other daughters, and along with his wife, they are also equally supportive that he went back to school. The father doesn't regret that he had to set aside nursing to start a family when he was younger since he saw the girls as they were growing up.

The women in his family serve as his inspirations to finish nursing. So, when the Cernobyls graduated the course on Thursday, May 26, everyone was really proud of the moment.
